NEW DEVELOPMENT FOR LEISURE MARINA and GOLF LAND LISTINGS.
In November 2004 a proposal was made by a Jersey based real estate company (RUFO Investments LTD) to develop the Stella Maris area of Long Island, Bahamas, by building a new development of upscale colonial island style homes, with a leisure marina, yacht club, inland waterway system offering homes with private dockage plus a commercial area (with hotel, bars, restaurants, shops, straw market etc) next to the (separately) proposed golf course. Discussions have been taking place for months. Finally, from December 2005, a firm proposal for the development is in place. Home-sites (allowing for up to 4 dwellings) are from $320,000 in the initial preferential rate first offering.
It should be noted that the commencement of this development in roughly 6 months, and completing in 4-5 years, will considerably increase land values in the surrounding area.

Mayaguana
Several boats have had problems stopping at Mayaguana, which is not an official port of entry. Those who stop there may only do so with permission from the local police officer. Clearance formalities must be completed at the earliest convenience at one of the listed ports of entry.
Mayaguana does not see a great deal of yachting traffic but it is a good place to break a passage. Care is needed when approaching the island and there are a few facilities, reprovisioning with local produce, home cooking, fuel and even propane gas. The inhabitants will make you very welcome.

San Salvador
Cockburn Town, San Salvador, offers clearance facilities and is worth a visit, claiming to be where Columbus first landed in the New World in 1492. Both Customs and Immigration offices are in the airport building, approximately 2 miles north of Cockburn Town.
Boats that intend to clear into the Bahamas can use either the facilities at Riding Rock Marina, just north of the main town, or anchor off the broken down jetty off Cockburn Town. There is now a new basin to be used by Government vessels, immediately to the north of the old jetty, and small yachts may be able to find shelter there. The entrance has been reported in GPS position 24.03.160 N, 74.32.195 W.

The small marina is used mainly by sports fishing and diving boats. The entrance has a minimum depth of 6.5 feet at low tide, so deep drafted boats should attempt to arrive at high water. Because space is limited, the marina should be contacted in advance for reservations as it gets full when rough weather is threatening. Water/ice, power, fuel, showers, toilets, laundry, pool, bike and car rental, restaurant. Clearence can be completed from this marina.
Riding Rock Inn Resort And Marina
Located on the small island of San Salvador in the Bahamas 360 miles southeast of Miami sits one of the premier scuba diving resorts and fishing Meccas of the world. Perched on a pinnacle and washed by warm breezes and clear azure waters, the Riding Rock Inn Resort and Marina offers you all of the excitement and adventure or rest and relaxation you've been searching for.
Being one of the southeasternmost islands in the Bahamas chain, San Salvador is just twelve miles long by five miles wide and home to approximately 950 residents. Life on San Salvador is pretty much as unhurried as it has been through the ages. It is still quiet, friendly and unspoiled with miles of deserted beaches and lush underwater life that was discovered by scuba divers in the 1970s.
Today, San Salvador is known world wide for the quality and diversity of the diving. With over 50 dive sites to choose from we have a great variety to keep traveling divers happy. Our normal daily visibility is in the 100 foot plus range.
